Neoma A. Trongo
Entered into rest on Thursday, Nov. 6, 2003 after a short bout with cancer. Mrs. Trongo had been employed for Western Electric in Oakland until 1957 when she and her husband, George, moved to El Tigre, Venezuela to work in the oil industry. They returned to California in 1975 and settled in Esparto in 1989.
Born in Everton, Arkansas on November 4, 1919, she was an avid craftsperson, and mastered the fine arts of painting, quilting, sewing and doll making. Her dolls were all hand made from the intricate painting of the faces, to assembling the bodies and sewing the costumes. She also raised dozens of different varieties of African Violets and belonged to the African Violet Society of the Bay Area, and the Davis Doll Club. An accomplished artist, her oil paintings were displayed in Art Shows in the Bay Area from 1975 through 1980.
Survivors include her son Kenneth Trongo and wife Mary Ann of Woodland; daughter, Patricia Birdwell, and husband Gene of Roseville; grandchildren, Laura Fickes of Peacham, Vermont; Brian Honeycutt of Carmichael; Rebecca Martin, Kevin Trongo, Amy Hurt, Kenneth Trongo, all of Woodland and 12 great-grandchildren. Sisters Iva Holland of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Mary Schellenberger of Granby, Missouri and Ruby Erickson of Sutherland, Oregon, plus numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death in 1999, by her husband of 61 years, George Trongo. Also, her brothers Ray, Thurman, Ernest and Doy Graves, and sisters Alta Hale, Lola Draper and Clara Tabor.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003 at Kraft Brothers Chapel, 175 Second St., Woodland, officiated by her nephew, Rev. J.L. McGoveran. Internment will follow at Capay Cemetery in Esparto.
