Hazel B. Porterfield

Hazel Bankson Porterfield died June 16, 2004, in Davis. Born in Canton, S.D., on March 6, 1915, she was 89.

She was the fifth of Amanda and Jim Bankson's six daughters. In 1934, she moved to California, where she married Peter Stephens Porterfield. After he served in the Navy, they moved to Esparto to farm with uncles. She taught school in Guinda, Esparto and Zamora.

She was in the Shakespeare Club in Woodland and also belonged to the Yolo Fliers Club.

After her husband's death in 1982, she moved to Davis.

She is survived by her son and daughter, Steve Porterfield of Denver and Paget Fitzgerald of Davis, one surviving sister, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She will be interred on Monday at Forest Lawn, 1500 E. San Antonio Drive, Long Beach CA 90807.

Hazel (Bankson) Porterfield

Hazel (Bankson) Porterfield died in Davis Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at age 89.

Born March 6, 1915, in Canton, S.D., Mrs. Porterfield had been a Yolo County resident for about 57 years. She was the fifth of six daughters born to the late Amanda and Jim Bankson. She moved to California in 1934 and graduated from UC Berkeleye (sic). She and her husband were Esparto farmers and she taught school in Guinda, Esparto and Zamora. She was a member of Woodland's Shakespeare Club and Yolo Fliers Club.

Survivors include her daughter, Paget Fitzgerald of Davis; son, Steve Porterfield of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Also surviving is her sister, Rosemund Courtney of Los Angeles. She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Peter Stephens Porterfield, in 1982.

The family requests memorials be directed to Friends of Esparto Library, P.O. Box 787, Esparto, 95627; or Yolo Hospice, P.O. Box 1014, Davis, 95616.

Services: No services are scheduled. Interment will take place Monday, June 21, at Forest Lawn, 1500 E. San Antonio Drive, Long Beach.
