Thanks, Peggy. I'm so unfamiliar with that area that it's hard for me to picture where you're talking about.
Every time I read something where it says "and there's nothing left of the place" and that place was there for more than just a really brief time, I know there has to have been deaths and burials. Many, many early cemeteries that were established as a result of the gold rush-era are among the missing, lost or destroyed. Believe it or not, I keep finding some of them! (Well, not necessary myself, but with the help of all the good people I meet through Internet contacts....<grin>.)
Keep up the good work!
Sue

Hello Sue:
When I was putting together the section on the Yolo County cemeteries for the Yolo County GenWeb Project web site that I maintain, I used the cemetery folders in the Yolo County Archives and some other Yolo County books. (A summary of information for the Yolo County cemeteries and photos are at this URL: <http://www.cagenweb.com/yolo/yolocem.htm>)
I only found one mention of a cemetery in the Fremont area, which was reportedly near the Elkhorn Ferry and was established by the residents of Fremont. I was not able to find the exact location of the reportedly located near Elkhorn Ferry.
History of Yolo County, Board of Education, Woodland, CA, 1964.
"There are several cemeteries along the Sacramento River. The earliest of these was in the vicinity of the Elkhorn Ferry. Tombstones dating back to 1866 can still be found at Cottonwood Cemetery....James Updegraff and the parents of prominent pioneers, Mr. and Mrs. Snowball, as well as many other pioneers, are resting in the Knight's Landing Cemetery."
The earliest cemetery was in the vicinity of Elkhorn Ferry. (The other 2 cemeteries listed in the area are the Cottonwood Cemetery and the Knights Landing Cemetery.)
In case you are also interested in the Capay Valley cemeteries in Yolo County, there is a very good article by Mark Riley entitled, "History of the Capay Cemetery District, with a Note on the Older Cemeteries of Capay Valley." You will find this article at: <http://www.capayvalley.com/histories/Capay_Cemetery_History.html>
