SHERIFF AND SIMMONDS RETURN FROM SISKIYOU
WOODLAND (Yolo Co.), July 29 - Deputy Sheriff Ernest GRIFFIN has returned
from Yreka, brining with him Al SIMMONDS, a traveling salesman, who is
charged with appropriating $300 belonging to the Racket store of this city
on Monday of last week. Simmonds furnished bail and was released from
custody.
Yesterday a traveling salesman by the name of Frank SILVERSTONE, a friend
of Simmonds, went into the Racket store and had a conversation with Manager
POWELL in regard to the arrest. The discussion grew quite warm and as
Silverstone was leaving the store he applied a vile epithet to Powell.
Powell immediately notified District Attorney HUSTON and swore to a warrant
charging Silverstone with disturbing the peace. He was arrested and brought
before Justice of the Peace LAMPTON, where he pleaded guilty and was fined
$25, which he paid.
