HELBURG HAD BIG REVOLVER
Threatened To Kill Barkeeper George Schlotz, But Dropped Weapon When He Took
It From His Pocket
WOODLAND (Yolo Co.), January 5 - Henry HELBURG, a blacksmith who recently
arrived in Woodland from Colusa, threatened to shoot George SCHLOTZ, the
barkeeper at the Pacific House, in this city, yesterday. Helburg, who was
under the influence of liquor, wanted a drink, and when Scholtz refused to
serve him, Helburg became abusive.
He stepped back from the bar and muttered, "I'm going to do it," and then
drew a revolver from his hip pocket. He fumbled the weapon and it fell to
the floor. Schlotz made his escape and Helburg picked up the weapon. He went
out on the sidewalk, walked up and down, gun in hand, peering into the
saloon.
Under Sheriff BROWN was notified and placed Helburg under arrest after
disarming him. While being taken to jail, Helburg repeated, "I'll kill him
when I get out. He is the man that put the dent in my head."
Brown did not notice any scars on the prisoner's head. Helburg has a
reputation of being very quarrelsome when under the influence of liquor. He
once had some trouble in the Pacific House, in which he was struck, and he
imagines Schlotz had some thing to do with it. Schlotz says he will not
prosecute Helburg if he will be sent out of the county.
