My problem is, I only know my grandparents came from England. My mother was
very young when her mother died, and she never knew what county her mother
was from. I'm not sure how to look that info up to find her.

I recommend you subscribe to a list that covers the "state" where your
ancestors in England lived. You will likely find someone who has access to
the NBI (National Burial Index) or the MI (monument inscriptions) and who
will do a lookup for you.
