To All Cemetery List readers, I have only been on the list for a few months
and now I have to tell of another family graveyard much damaged by persons
unknown who went with a jeep of some sort, and drove it in and over ,the
Clarks Chapel Cemetery outside of Greenwood Arkansas. Many stones were over
turned and many were destroyed... My family has many members there...I wonder
what would inspire people to destroy a sacred place? Hummm... I suppose that
the laws of Karma may well allow that they will never have a final resting
place of there own...and I hope that one day I'll feel less anger about it and
more pity for the kind of frame of mind you'd have to be in to do something so
awful. I am far away and there is no one there who can protect the cemetery
or repair the damage for my ancestors graves, as my folks are old and not in
the best of health...I can only assure that I will school my young son in the
profound right of sacred places and those who believe in them, and even rely
upon them that they may travel throughout the world ever knowing that there is
a place on this planet where our forefathers put their shoulder to a plow and
their hearts and hopes in a shroud and buried them with the remains of the
loved ones "gone on" I cannot hope that people will stop being
destructive...and yet, I cannot see a future with out such a hope. Thanks for
taking the time to read this and share with me in this sorrow. This Cemetery
list seemed the best forum for this complaint. I would be open to any
suggestions or advice as to how the rest of you have coped with the changing
attitudes that allow for the destruction of the temples of self... I see an
urgent need to record our family plots and get the information into one of the
projects recording gravesites... I have very little information as to how to
go about plotting and mapping the area...is there a format used?
Sincerely, April McAllister
