Melissa,
My suggestion is, if the cemeteries are close and small and you want to do
it....DO IT !!! Even if it has been done before. I recently did all the
cemeteries in a certain township. All are small family cemeteries except for
one public one. It is an old cemetery but they are still burying there. There
are NO records for any of these cemeteries but in 1960 a lady transcribed the
stones in the public cemetery. But when I did it this year I laid out the
cemetery and recorded the locations of all the stones not just what the stones
say. I clearly found mistakes that was made the first time it was transcribed.
Anyway what I am getting at is even after you do it and you find somebody else
has done it..compare the two. Maybe you can add to the previous recording or
correct an error. But at least you are willing to do it. I wished everyone
would go out and transcribe a cemetery. They are a vital link to our past and
are very rapidly being lost due to erosion, vandalism, progress (as they call
it).
Also check out this site it will give you some clues and you can send
your work to them or view any others. http://www.rootsweb.com/~cemetery/

Good Luck,

<< Hi everyone! I am new to this list and have a few questions...How do you
know
if a cemetery is already recorded? Do you only do this to cemeteries that
are
now closed? How do you go about starting? There are two small, old
cemeteries near my rural childhood home. Both contain my ancestors and
family
members. I am sure whomever is in charge must record all burials--is our
work
redundant? Thanks for your help! I look forward to learning more here!
