Judy,
I've been working on the cemeteries in Danbury, CT, for about 2 years
now. There are 23 of
them, and an estimated 75,000 gravestones.
You are right - it is very important to get an accurate cataloguing of
the cemeteries. This is
especially true for those cemeteries that are abandoned.
When I "work" a cemetery, I usually have a small core group of
volunteers. My wife and I do most
all of the transcribing, but while we are there, we also clean some of
the stones, clear brush, dig
up toppled stones, take photographs, and if needed, develop a plot map.
Very ambitious, but
within our small group, everyone has developed an area of "expertise",
so that we can also work
independently.
To see some of our results, you may wish to visit our web site.
