Subject: [Old Bones CEMETERY-L] Destroyed Cemetery/Florida

I am looking for any advice or assistance with an old cemetery of my family's
that I have discovered. Here's what I have:

The Barnes/Buzbee cemetery was located on my family's property in eastern
Hillsborough County, Florida (near Tampa) which they homesteaded in the mid
1800's. Unfortunately, the land, which was owned by my grandfather at one
time, was sold out of the family around 1960 and the man who purchased it
decided to bulldoze over the cemetery and plant an orange grove! The only
thing left are bits and pieces of the marble headstones that are sticking up
through the ground. The land has passed hands several times and the man who
currently owns the land is older and thinking of selling it and possibly
subdividing it into lots. His attorney called me a few weeks ago to see what
I knew about the cemetery, but gave me no indication of trying to preserve it.

I have contacted the county, the local genealogical society and even
researched the state statutes but have nothing to help me with the possible
preservation and/or restoration of this cemetery. There are supposedly about
40 graves there, including my great grandfather, who is Confederate Veteran.

Sorry this is so lengthy, but if anyone has any thoughts or
suggestions about what I might do I would appreciate it. I just don't want
to see this important piece of history and my family forgotten because of
someone's foolish actions in the past. Thanks in advance.
