UNCLAIMED DEAD GET FINAL RESTING PLACE

On Wednesday, May 8, 2002, 37 unclaimed dead were laid to rest
in Kitsap County, Washington. They were buried by volunteers of
the local Parks and Recreation staff at the Old Silverdale
Cemetery off Anderson Hill Road in Kitsap County.

The cremated remains had been stored at the county morgue over
a period of about 10 years. Under the leadership of the Kitsap
County Coroner, Greg Sandstrom, the community pulled together
and gave these individuals a final resting place. Sue Brown
purchased two lots at the cemetery, local florists donated
flowers, funeral homes made individual gravesite markers, and
Fire District 7 Chaplain, Melvin Byrd, presided at the ceremony.
A number of local residents came out to honor these former
Kitsap residents.

For all but one of the boxes of cremated remains, we have names,
dates of birth, and dates of death as shown below. Maybe someone
who reads this has been looking for a loved one who was buried
here on 8 May 2002.
