The Vermont Old Cemetery Association strongly frowns on steam cleaning,
on the basis that the amount of pressure used in this process is too
strong and on can remove the top layer of stone. I would assume that the
older and more brittle the stone is the more likely this will take place.

This begs another question... What are the cemetery sextons using to
clean off markers of the graffiti?
I haven't seen any replies to Tony's question yet. One problem with
steam-cleaning is the need for battery for powering the steam cleaners.
