Ed, Thanks for the info on the HP printers. This may well come in handy for
others. I had someone else who was having difficulty with an HP DeskJet and
have forwarded your message on. Perhaps this is the same problem.

before entering any more data. <Grin>

It is actually coming along quite well. I shall try to upload it by the end
of the month. I have changed the structure (again) - but hope that all will
be good enough now that I won't ever change it again - meaning that I hope
after posting beta 5 everyone can use it for real without fear of losing
data from database structural changes. (I've actually already committed my
own 3500 names database to Ver 3 beta 5 and have made enough changes that I
am not going to backup to Ver 2.)

Family Tree Maker and was having trouble. At my urging he has now ordered
CFTWIN. How are you handling people who purchase 2.5 now and 3.0 comes out
a short time later. (hopefully). Will they be able to upgrade for free? or
a small fee?

Thanks for the word of mouth.

Well, I haven't really made a final decision on upgrades. I have been
thinking that I would begin to "selectively" sell Ver 3 beta 5 as a
"Pre-Release". It would really be an upgrade charge as my intention was to
not advertise it's sell, but sell an upgrade to those who asked (and who
are mostly on this Mailing List). Thus those who are here, who are the most
anxious for the new version, could begin using it within a month - with all
future updates to Ver 3 FREE for the download. I was planning on $20
upgrade fee - just as it is now from earlier CFT program to Ver 2 (no
manual). (Ver 3 will have no printed manual. The manual will be in PDF
format and go with the program.)

I expect final release not to occur for several more months. I know that
people that purchase a program (Ver 2) within the month or two just before
the release will think they should get a free upgrade to Ver 3. But at what
point do you cut this off? I don't think the major software manufacturers
ever offer such a deal. I have heard of other small players (like myself)
offering free upgrades to those who purchased within the prior month. What
is your opinion?

Ira
