Subject: [CFTW] Printing a BOOK

G'day Ira and Erik,

Firstly, thank you Erik for the explanation for the creation of PDFs using
Ghostscript/Ghostview. Works like a dream. It did take me a little while to
realise that you do everything from Ghostview and that Ghostscript just
works away in the background.

My aim at this time is only to produce the "book" on CD as a method of
"proof reading" and for reference to other parts of the book. The use of PDF
files and Acroread or Ghostview is so much quicker than doing a print
preview for the relevant part (report).

The following is from the manual page 172:-
>>>
OR you may print the entire book at once - or parts of the book by using the
Beginning and Ending buttons on the tool bar to mark the beginning and
ending reports you want to print, then pressing the print button. The
Indexed Book will keep track of page numbers correctly. As each report is
generated, the program will build an index of all individuals in the report
and the page number they appear on.
>>>
I have encountered no problems with page numbering and the name index and
all appears well here.

I gathered from this that the result would be a single (albeit a large) file
for the whole book.

This does not appear to be the case. CFTW steps through all parts
sequentially but you still have to enter a separate file name for each
"report" and each is saved separately. This is only a minor distraction but
I just wish to confirm that it is so?

The next thing that I need to find out is how to combine the separate
"postscript" files in to one file before converting to PDF or how to combine
a number of PDF files - as they say "I'm working on it....". I have a
sneaking suspicion that this may require the full Acrobat.

HURU
