G'day Nigel,

Alternatively, you can quote the data and cite the source under Source
Editor. Am I going about this the right way and is there a convention I
should follow?
>>
I think you will often find that there is a wealth of information (or
sometimes misinformation) on many "primary" sources such as birth, death,
trade certificates which gives rise to many "events" (data). Place of
residence at a particular time, parents, occupation at a particular time
etc....
Hence I put the document/source as a source which is often referred back to
by many events. Whether it is an "original" certificate (the one you get
when you marry), or an extract (obtained later on request from the
Registrar) I feel that the real data is held by the Registrar (the gummint)
so that is the true repository of the data but I always make a note about
the copy or extract held by me in the Notes part of the Source editor.
Then again, in my early days as I stumbled along I was not always consistent
so have some correcting to do (one of the great benefits of CFTW).
I assume that you have read the excellent examples and reasoning in the
manual ;-).
Chapter 2. Don't worry, I am also confused at times!

researching. What a splendid idea!

Thanks Nigel but I can't claim originality as I pinched the idea from
someone else yonks ago.
I must add a couple more on the wife's side one day but it could get out of
hand ;-)
