Can anyone give me some background information on the patentee in 1769 for
land near present Plattsburgh, Charles de Friedenberg? He was granted 30,000
acres by letters patent which arrived directly from England. He was also
given a commission as lieutenant colonel major of a militia regiment to be
established for the entire area northward from Saratoga to the Canadian
boundary; Philip Skene was made colonel in the same regiment. Who was
Charles de Friedenberg? Was he a veteran of the French and Indian War?
