The total time on voyages came to 179m. 3d. and his fund with the Benefit
Society had reached £5 11s 11 1/4p.

The next two steps would be to look at the second (but incomplete) set of
books that detail the ships and their compliments. They are fragile and
cannot be photocopied so will have to be transcribed.

I quickly looked at one entry for the Nameless (BTW there were two ships
called this registered in Jersey at the time!)

08.06.1849 Frederick Bailache of St Ouen was Captain (aged 33) formerly of
the Swift, William was his No. 2, the No. 1 being John Hamon of Trinity
(aged 24) having come with the Captain from the Swift. Didn't have time to
record any other information but can go back in due course.

The second step would be to consult the Ships' Pictures Index produced by
the Jersey Museums Service and see if any of his ships are listed. As
this list has been given to us to be published in the CIFHS Journal, I have
it at home with me.

<Group - don't mind doing look ups over the next couple of weeks before it
has been typeset and the original put into our archives.>

Nameless, Middleton, Pelican, Sophia and Constant not listed.

1. The Monarch (not dated or described).
2. The Swift (not dated) watercolour and pencil.
3. The Peggy of Jersey (1861) watercolour and pencil.

All by Philip John Ouless (1817-1885) who was commissioned to paint many
ships between about 1840 and 1885.

Sadly I can't guarantee that these are the right ships (there were often
several with the same name) and getting photographic copies made is
expensive - starts at £ 20 an hour plus print costs - do you want to follow
this up?
