Hello Folks,
At the request of the listowner, I am sending this to the list for their
information. While it centres far from the CI, who knows where some folks
travelled.
Hello Edward,
I'll bet that with the surname Jones you have roots in Wales, too.
I saw your message on the Channel Islands List, and I thank you for your
interest.
At the moment I cannot see any connection. I have extremely little on the
WILLIAMS I am looking for, but here it is -
My gg grandmother, Margaret Lloyd, was married to an Elias Roberts. They
were both born Wales, and moved from Bistree, Wales to Ince in Makerfield
in 1853, with 4 small children. Elias was killed in a coal pit accident in
1856. Margaret remarried in Feb 1860 to one Robert Williams. I think he may
also have been Welsh.
Margaret was born 1822, Robert was about 9 years younger according to the
marriage certificate, making him born ca 1831 or so.
Two sons were born to them - Edward, Aug 1860, and John Thomas, Feb 1865,
both at Rock Farm, Wigan. I haven't located that place as yet.
And that is it. I have extensive research on my Roberts, back to a 1724
marriage in Wales, but so far I have not researched Robert Williams. Too
many other angles to work on. There is an indication that Edward was in
Indiana, USA, I estimate at least about 1890-1900, maybe earlier. A second
marriage by Margaret was not remembered by an elderly cousin of mine in
Leigh. She said she had never heard one mentioned, and she knew Margaret as
an old lady. In looking through old family memorabilia she did find a
photograph of a good-looking, well-dressed man in his thirties, or so. On
the back was written - `Edward Williams, Cory, Clay County, Ind.'
Such a place does exist, and I have been working that angle off and on for
over a year. In late Dec. I got a glimmer from the SSDI, and I await a
response from the Social Security Records Office. The Edward Williams
(1900-1968) I found could be a son of the first one. The dates are close
enough, and the place of residence was Brazil, a neighbouring town to Cory,
and a coal mining area.
John Thomas has not been researched at all. About 3 weeks ago I received an
e-mail from a chap in Germany. He and his wife are both Britons, and his
wife has WILLIAMS connnections. In fact the names Edward and Thomas fit. He
promised to send me some info via snail mail. I sure hope he follows
through on it.
I'm sorry I cannot be of more help, but if you have done more WILLIAMS
research than I have, perhaps you can see a link. I hope so. I will keep
your interests and e-mail address on file, and get back to you if anything
materialises.
Cheers, Jim
