Probably Poingdestre. It has several derivatives in the USA.
Current English pronunciation sounds like "Poin-chester" (the Poin rhyming
with coin) but in the 19th century and earlier it would probably have had a
French sound.
Today it's a common name in Jersey but not in Guernsey.
