Hello listers,

I would like to add here that I have already used two sessions, using my
credit card, and have downloaded a dozen or so images. There are
frequent spelling mistakes in names and places, but often due to bad
handwriting by the enumerator. I also ordered a printed A3 image which
arrived within 24hrs and was good quality, although a print of a
downloaded image is normally quite readable when printed on A4.

The charge to your c'card is done with a secure site. It should be
remembered that the PRO already have a charging system for downloading
some wills and historical document images, which I have also used
previously.

One point to make is that if a entry for a particular house goes over
the page you would need to download 2 images, one for each page.

I have seen only one problem and that is related to things hanging up
after viewing an image and returning to the listing. A friend reprted
the same thing so I think this is a bug, it just means you have to
restart the browser and restart your session which needs the creditcard
number and date re-entering.

Good hunting

Bob

I take it a lot of us are giving the census site a bit of a "test" at
the moment.

Mark raises my fear at the moment in that it is a test site with obvious
bugs at the moment & I am a little cautious until its all stable about
using a credit card in case their system for handling them cannot cope
either so I think I will hang back. Has anyone got a voucher and used
it?

BTW if anyone wants to look at what the image system looks like without
having to pay, the Direct Search link lets you look at the pre-census
enumeration district details - for example enter Piece 5309 leaving
Folio & Page blank. The image quality is good.

Regards
Chris
