Hello
I asked an expert - needed to be naturilised to own property, or to
avoid national service.
In Julien's case it may be in regard to property, as some of his boats were
in his wifes name (Jane Wimbee). But he was only about twenty when he came
to Jersey so he could have been dodging. His brothers also came over, Collas
ran a shop in King Street, Frederick a tinsmith in Library Place then Peter
Street. Frederick's sons dissappear but one (Pierre Phil. Nicolas)of the
three is buried in Jersey
Presently struggling with surnames in St Helier - Belin, Belling (English
origin?) Bournel/Burnel, Delaval (should this be De Laval? or even De La
Val),
Nick - wet and breezy Jersey
Maritime of the Channel Islands
