Hi Stephen,
Tongue in cheek! Check the 1841 Census. See how many 'Pilots' you can find!
Maybe they did fly?!
Basically though, what you say about Nicolas Robin (Note; NOT Nicholas!) is
quite correct. His brother Charles also returned to Guernsey
Regards
Ray

I was told that my g.g.grandfather, Nicholas Robin, took the family to
Australia with his first wife; she died in childbirth on the way out, so he
returned to Guernsey, leaving a couple of sons in Australia, remarried, had
six more children in Guernsey, which encouraged my g.grandfather James Robin
to emigrate to America with several of the brothers and sisters from his
fathers first marriage, then later being joined by several of his
step-brothers and step-sisters.

Islands that split estates equally between family memebrs including spouse,
and with upwards of a total of twelve children between two marriages would
have over diluted everything. I'm sure they were not the only family to
travel backwards and forwards between the Channel Islands and Australia or
America several times. Seems incredibale now without air travel, but they
did it.
