Dear Geoff,

I am not of the Luce line but of the Nicolle line. In the US three families
from the Channel Islands have now been connected only because of the 25
marker DNA testing mentioned in the email I am responding to. One family
had no idea where they came from, the other had been told Guernsey and my
family has a letter dated 1890 that tells about coming from there about 1750
or so. All three families now spell the name Nichols and one thought they
were from England.

I would not want DNA listings to over power the list topics but for many of
us it is an essential avenue to solving our ancestry. As of this writing
our three families have yet to establish a paper/pencil connection to the
Nicolle line on Guernsey but we are actively working on it.

For the Luce line and any others the 25 marker test is more conclusive and
well worth the money. The 12 marker test might not offer enough information
to make the line connections folks are looking for.

Thank you for making this topic available for discussion. Depending on the
consensus of the readers on the list new doors may open which is what the
list is all about.

Thanks,

Marybeth Nichols Nightingale
