Would perhaps the name "LeCornu" be Anglicized as "Carne"?? I have a Jane
Ashelford who married John Carne at Plymouth, Devon, in 1864, and he
apparently died in 1869 (FreeBMD), and Jane Carne was a widow in Plymouth in
1871, so I don't know have a birthplace for John Carne. He was a seaman on
the marriage certificate, born about 1834, father named John Carne
(deceased).

Most people named Carne in the censuses were born in Cornwall, but as Jane
was on Alderney in 1851 and her sister lived on Jersey, I thought of the
possible connection of LeCornu-Carne. I am not so interested in tracing
John, but in the name variations for researching Jane after 1871.
