G'Day Roland,
Thanks for your advice, I think 1849 would be too early to find Frank "on
the farm" and I have no idea of the names of his parents, it is only
recently that I have been able to put a bit more of the family structure
together and identify more clearly the family members. I am trying to avoid
"jumping a generation" and finding myself following someone else's tree
backward instead of my own. The photographs I have are not dated but they do
have notes on the back which has helped me to cobble together a structure
which I am slowly "proving". If the Francis P. Mauger in the 1881 census is
mine, I should be able to locate him again later with a son Percival or
Percy, If I can do this, it will prove that I have the correct person and I
can then try to follow him backwards, at the same time it will tend to date
the photographs for me, which will answer other questions that I have. One
of Jane Gibaut's elder sister's was named Elizabeth S. Gibaut and she was
born around 1837 in St Mary, Jersey. The wife shown for Francis P.Mauger in
the 1881 British Census is an Eliz. Susan Mauger aged 45, born in St Mary's,
Jersey so this is looking very good so far. My father John William Pattison
was born in St Helier, Jersey, 19 May 1896 and died in Geelong, Australia,
07 Jul 1981. I was born in 1950 when Dad was 54 years old and I am the third
"child" in a family of five children. Dad was the only contact we had with
Jersey so we have no one to ask now about any queries we may have. Luckily I
showed an interest in "more detail" in who the relatives were and how they
fitted in prior to Dad's death but it is still a bit like putting together a
large jigsaw puzzle and all the pieces are white. I'm happy to give you my
e-mail address, which is but I'll take a "Rain Check"
if you don't mind on the offer of the partial scan of the map at the moment.
If you ever need anything looked up in Australia, Victoria in particular,
don't hesitate to ask.
Thanks once again, from a currently windy, Melbourne, Australia
