Some early drownings off Grouville, Jersey in 1844 .
I have a very descriptive account in french of the tragedy from an unknown book. Hope this helps listers.

at 'Large de la Roque', Grouville
The cutter, 'Laurel'- captained by Mr Jean Pallot, left the Mont-Orgueil harbour with 19 people aboard to go on a fishing trip. They put down anchor, furious wind came up, cutter smashed onto rocks. Five survived and fourteen were drowned. The five who survived were:
Captain Jean Pallot
Edouard Le Vesconte jun
Philippe Amy
Jean Coutanche
Philippe Le Huquet
François Amy
And the fourteen who drowned were :
Charles Mallet and his son William Mallet
Edouard Le Vesconte and his two sons Jean Le Vesconte and Nicolas Le Vesconte and his daughter Catherine Le Vesconte
John le Vesconte
George Le Brun and his two sons François Le Brun and Philippe Le Brun
Jean Carrel
Nicolas Pallot (son of Captain Pallot)
Mrs Romeril (née Le Boutillier)
Miss Anne Falle
