In the early days of the SOCIETE JERSIAISE (c.1895 to 1920's) led and
organized by the remarkable Edouard Toulmin Nicolle, a number of
publications were produced. The 'working party' transcribed from the
original Latin and then translated into French, many ancient documents;
including the EXTENTES, INQUISITIONS, CHANCERY and EXCHEQUER PETITIONS,
ASSIZE ROLLS etc..
The originals manuscripts, I believe were borrowed from The Public Records
Office in London and the Archives of the Departement de la Manche in St. Lo.
It was from these early Soc. Jer. publications that I collected the early
names for my 'NAMES FROM THE PAST' website.
You are quite correct, Michael, there is considerably more, but my website
is just for genealogists - tracing JERSEY family names....
The publications (mostly) include Jersey, Guernsey, Alderney and Sark.
