Hello List,

I have been able to learn recently that Julia does not show up in the registered births between 1850 and 1860. Now, I'm trying to place her in Jersey anywhere between 1853 and 1871. According to family information, she was orphaned following her father's (Charles Little) death at sea. It is not known what happened to her mother Catharine Little. Was there a poorhouse/orphanage in Jersey where some records may be found?

She appeared in the 1871 Lambeth, England census as a servant in a school. Is it likely/possible that she was sent there to get her off the dole?

If you have a direction for me to go, I'd appreciate it. If you have any thoughts or guesses as to how I could find more, I'd appreciate that also.

She was fondly remembered by my mother and her mother. She became a nurse here in Massachusetts, U.S.A. and the pictures I have of her present a wonderful loving family woman. I'm impressed how a life can begin with such calamity and end up in what appears to be a picture of warmth and steadfastness (if that's a word..lol). Thanks for reading.

Jim

I can't help you with the hospital/workhouse records enquiry but on later
ensuses I picked up a married couple, John (or Jean) and Ellen Falle. The
eneral consensus is that he was born about 1839 in the parish of St Saviour,
ersey and that she was born about 1836 in the parish of St Mary, Jersey. They
on't appear to have had any children that I could see. For many years they were
esiding in the parish of St Lawrence, Jersey. They last appear together on the
901 census and then ten years later Ellen is a widow. His occupation was
agricultural labourer' in 1891 and 'gardener' in 1901. I think Ellen's father
as born in England, according to the 1911 census.
