Hi Listers,

I hope someone can help me answer a question about my family tree.

It has been suggested by some of the researchers of my family that my
great great great grandfather THOMAS CHASE (aka THOMAS LINNELL) may have
been the son of EBENEZER CHASE (born 9 dec 1767 in Stratham, New
Hampshire, died 4 Dec 1854 in Sanbornton, NH) and REBECCA COLBY (born 21
June 1769 in Haverhill, MA, died 27 Oct 1850 in <unknown place>).

Thomas's siblings (children of Ebenezer & Rebecca (Cheney) Chase) were
all born Sanbornton, NH:
i Rebecca - b 20 oct 1787
ii William - b 20 jun 1789
iii Thomas - b 10 feb 1792 (Our Thomas)
iv Sarah Cheney - b 13 aug 1794
v Maria Crockett - b 12 dec 1798
vi Ebenezer - b 15 apr 1800
vii Lucy Piper - b 18 oct 1805
viii Betsey C. - b 19 feb 1807
ix Daniel Piper - b 25 aug 1811

The reason that these researchers have suggested this is that there is
an unconfirmed story in our family that Thomas jumped ship from a
man-of-war ship during the War of 1812, changed his surname to LINNELL
and settled in Lunenburg County, Nova Scotia. The researchers say that
Ebenezer and Rebecca Chase had a son Thomas who went to sea and never
returned.(Source: "Seven Generations of the Descendants of Aquila and
Thomas Chase" by John Carroll Chase & George Walter Chamberlain).

Here are my questions:

1. Does anyone have any information on Ebenezer Chase, Rebecca Colby,
and their children? If so, do you think it is possible my ggg
grandfather is in fact their son?

2. Does anyone know of any connection between the Chase family and the
Linnell family?

Any help you can provide would be very much appreciated, as this is very
much a mystery to me..

Thanks, Linda Chase
