I know one way the privacy act affect Genealogy is here;
due to the Privacy Act, unless you are the person in question, their
parent(s), legal guardian, or next-of-kin:
a.. Birth Certificates are not available until 98 years after the birth has
occurred.
a.. Marriage Certificates are not available for 82 years.
a.. Death Certificates are not available for 72 years.
That's from the Canada GenWeb page.
OS I figure if on the website you follow the code of Genealogy ~ no dates of
anyone living, that the Canadian gov shouldn't have any problems with it.
Besides I know that Senator Milne is passing along genealogy info of living
indivials however she's leaving the dates and other personal info out of it.
Now just to get her to fix the wrong paternal info she has on a child and
show that his father is an american.

exactly? I just wanted to be safe as the law took effect Jan 1 2004. I have
sent an email to a privacy area of the Provincial Government and they have
given me places to inquire at the Federal level as the Internet is more
their concern. I will get back to the list shortly with more detailed info
if possible (you know governments, LOL). So I will let the database stand as
is, so I jumped the gun Keith, sorry. It is becoming more of a concern.
> I am inquiring if putting someone as a source and quoting their email
address might be a problem also. I would think that giving one information
about family would be implicit consent to put the email as a source so long
as permission was given to add it to an online database.
