The Reverends John and James Chastain are two distinct persons. Rev. John
Chastain (Ten Shilling Bell) was married to a Mary (O'Bryan), the wife or
wives of Rev. James are unknown/unproven, at present. I believe the
confusion came about concerning the possibility that a Marian/Mary Ann
Chasteen, noted in the 1820 Greenville Co SC census, was a wife of Reverend
James. It seems that she was the potential mother of the Renny P. Chasteen
of the last several posts. This Marian/Mary Ann is not the same as Mary
(O'Bryan).

I used to think there was a John and a James, but then I finally
figured they were the same person (Rev John "Ten Shilling bell"
Chastain) I am also interested in what his real name was, maybe
someone at the Chastain foundation has a clue?
Does anyone have any Chastain books? Maybe there is a clue in there.
I am going to the LDS family history center tomorrow, they have a
few books on the Chastains, one is very very large. I will look
and see what I can find. (When I found the book the center closed
5 minutes later...<pout> so off I go down the road again...<smile>
