Rufus "Doc" Chavis was born in North Carolina and is the nephew of my Alexander & Amanda (Maiden unknown) Chavis - Marlboro County 1860 Census - I can assure you that he is Not of African-American ancestry.

There are several lines. The origin is still buried some where and I've been digging for over 20 years to this point - I've found many - many lines. there is some indication that the North Carolina/South Carolina lines stem from three brothers but again, I've not been able to find that stump of the tree.

I can also say that there are no African-American lines in the Pee Dee of South Carolina - and that is where My people are at
