I kind of know how you feel. I responded to a Mayfield-Rootsweb chat line (normally genealogy)
to a letter another man on the Mayfield list.....and the list owner, Donna, didn't like what HE
said, or so it appeared, and I wrote what I had to write. I unsubbed, and she sent me a note
"thanking" me for what she was planning to to do....kick me off the list. (This all happened
within a brief space of time!).

The conversation was not on genealogy of the Mayfields. It was about, of course , Sept. 11,
01 and all that goes with it. He felt (when I read his follow-up posts) that she had called him
in a lengthy post to the list, unpatriotic.........and....same for anyone who also agreed with
him (there was just the two of us...and Donna). was, unpatriotic. You can imagine where THAT
WENT.

Well, I am glad you have so many people here who know and realize yours, and Dan's value. I was
not really new on the list, but always kept my opinions to myself, but in this particular case, I
felt a need to answer.
I'll miss that list. Funny. I wondered after I was unsubbed, what the discussion would be.
Wondered if anyone on the list saw my point. Saw the man's point . Well, the end result is hurt
feelings, and of couse, I lost a valuable group of people in many ways.

That is the first time in 5 years I have EVER had a problem. She accused me of "flaming" (I
don't even know what that means but have a pretty good idea now), and a lot of other
things.......because, I DISAGREED.
Unlike you, I could not bring myself to apologize. I rarely think I am wrong. And, funny thing
is, I still don't think I was wrong. So, I had to unsub. The man? He wrote back a very long
posts to her explaining his life of patriotism, his patriotic deeds, etc. Then, he thanked her
for the forum. I thought he was a much larger, or
well, hate to say it, but stronger person than I was. I could not do that.

Whatever the above lends to the conversation here, I do hope it is understood, and helpful. Not
just for today, but the many tomorrows to come, and even in other areas of life.

I saw another lists today, temper's flared, etc.....I suppose, we have to walk and talk a bit
more softly these days. You have a good list here, with a lot of great wonderful people,
including you and Dan. Good luck.
Don't feel bad. You're ok. Dan's ok. It is all this other stuff..........isn't ok. Walk
