I too have fibromyalgia. They put on Trazodone 50 mg at bed time - it is found
that antidepressants, certain types will help with fibromyalgia. It works on
the centers for pain giving you relief from the pain. I virtually have no
pain, just once in a while on a bad day I will have break through pain. They
did use amitriptyline for a while but it tends to make your mouth dry out and
make you hungry. My cousin has the same condition as well and I believe they
have her on Paxil 20 mg at bedtime. Using Trazodone or any antidepressants at
these low doses don't help depression to speak of, usually you have have to
take twice that much for it work for depression. Tho having the condition can
be very depressing without relief. It is genetic as well - i.e. it will be
found in several family members. The best way I heard it described as
"arthritis of the muscles". Exercise is an absolute necessity to help this
condition and diet will also help a lot too. The lack of sleep is a result of
the fibromyalgia and when you get no sleep it worsens it like a vicious
circle. I am living proof you can be virtually pain-free and only get
breakthrough pain when I am spending too much time being sedentary and when I
am under a lot of stress. Feel free to write me at .
