Steve,

The best advice I could give you is that you probably need to make
connection with someone that knows someone, if you understand what I mean.
There is no special significance in most items, except that the individual
who makes the necklace or the gift giver attach to them. I could explain it
better, but not in a public forum like this. You could contact Dr. Abrams
at the Cherokee Heritage Museum, I posted his addie and phone a few days
ago, and he would be able to instruct you. I'm sure not qualified. :-)
Hope this helped.

Subject: [CHERO-CULTURE] Necklaces

Osiyo Everyone, I would like to know the meaning behind the different beads
and the wood and the different things that are used in makeing necklaces. I
know some things, i have tryed to research it. I have found the meaning of
different colors. The reason i ask these things is i have a Wolf Tooth
necklace that was made by Rodger Crow. This necklace is my prize possesion.
I am never without it but in wearing it for the past 2 years it has broken
twice. I was told by the person that gave to me that if it did only a shaman
could restring it. I was at a pow wow and tryed to find a way to get intouch
with Rodger Crow and was to my sadness told he had passed away. I was told
he
only made a couple of these a year as makeing them was very important to him
and so it goes to without saying that that makes this one very important to
me. Wait im rambling on i guess hope lots of logs for fire LOL. AT the pow
wow i was told would probably mean more to me if i restrung it and i did and
does mean great deal to me. So i guess in a round about way what is the
meaning of the different things used and is there a specific meaning to way
and order they are used and does anyone know where there is a site i can go
to and research these things. Now im ready for that hot cocoa is a nice night
for a fire. Wado, WaYa
