I saw your posting to the Cheshire list about your Atkinson and Burdekin names. You are the first person I have come across who
is also researching BURDEKIN - my grandmother's name.

There are only about 900 Burdekins in the IGI (although the IGI is not comprehensive) and the indications are that they are
all descended from the one family back in the time of Elizabeth I. That means we are probably related.
I can not help with Alice and Samuel. You will need to look them up in the StCaths index at your local LDS Family History
Centre.
Here's a teaser for you. George ATKINSON was the informant for the death of my gggrandfather, George BURDIKIN (notice 'i'
rather than 'e') in Gateshead in 1851. Unfortunately I have not traced all the marriages of George B's daughters but it seems
highly likely that George A was a son-in-law - which might suggest our relationship is nmot all that distant.
The Burdekins in the area around Stockport seem to be associated with the chemical and glass industries. As far as I can tell
the family were very early into alkali manufacture in Newcastle and Gateshead.and shifted to this part of Cheshire in the mid-
to late-1860's either in connection with the heavy chemical manufacturing at Widnes of the glass works (Pilkingtons) at St
Helens.
I have found burial records for a few Burdekin/ Burdikin families in New Zealand but have not checked them out.
I have been very busy of late and haven't had much time to pursue my own research - but a possible link might spur me to new
efforts!
Best regards
David Bryant
