Jan,

I checked my atlas and Cheshire, Conn. Is inland, about 15 miles due
north of New Haven.

Hello everyone
Chester group has just received a photograph from some anonymous person
of a gravestone in Cheshire, Connecticut - "In memory/of/Lieut. Thomas
BROOKS/ 1679 - 1732/ son of/ Henry BROOKS/ from Cheshire, England/ and
father of/Capt. Enos BROOKS/ Settled in Cheshire/ Colony of Conn. 1705/
He was first in petitioning/ the General Assembly/ for the organization of
the/ Congle. Church also for/...........school privileges/ He was
foremost/ in every good work/ A devout Christian/ Self organizing and/
unceasing in his labors/ for the infant settlement / of Cheshire."
The next gravestone is also partially legible on the photograph - "In
memory of..........Cornelius BROOKS........who died Dec. ...5th 1783 age
72".
Does anyone know anything about this settlement in Connecticut, the
BROOKs family, and were there any other people from Cheshire buried in
this cemetery? I can't find Cheshire, Connecticut in my atlas, can
anyone tell me where it is?
Jan Craig, Chester.
