Hello to All,
I believe the appellation may have survived from a time when Toxteth was
designated a Royal hunting park during the reign of King John. There was
a royal hunting lodge in the area (hence: Lodge Lane) and I believe that
the remains of the foundations of same are still visible in a part of
one of the Victorian gatehouses to Sefton Park.
Sorry if the information is sketchy, but this is purely from
recollection.
best wishes,
Leslie Carter
