John,

I have just checked the Death Certificate of my late Father-in-Law. I was
the informant and it says exactly the same thing about me. Basically I was
one of the family members involved in undertaking the funeral arrangements.
In the case of my own mother's Certificate it simply said "Son". If my wife
had been the informant for her father it would presumably have said
"Daughter". I wonder why "Son-in-Law" was not preferable to "causing the
body to be buried". Perhaps only certain relations are permitted to be
informants and anyone else can only do it if they are involved in the
funeral arrangements, are executors of the estate or have some other
legitimate reason for being involved. I wonder if Registrars work to any
fixed rules on this.

Best wishes,
