well for what it's worth here is our quick (ish) method

you need to know very roughly where the address is, then get hold of a
modern street map.

search in the town of your choice for a common name eg Brown. if there are
too many, choose an age range.

about 30 matches should be enough. look through until you find a street
that's reasonably close on the modern street plan.

Tag the name, hit the neighbours tag and scroll through till you get a
street that's even closer. tag that one too.

keep going until you find your street. if you get lost, you can go back to
the tags.

well, it works for us.
