Hi Kathleen - for future reference, here are a couple of websites which list occupations in times of old. They are http://www.gendocs.demon.co.uk/trades.html#TOP
and http://www.rootsweb.com/~billingh/occupation.shtml . Unfortunately, I didn't see a "picker maker", but here is a "picker" if that helps.
PICKER A person who cast the shuttle on a loom.
