Most certainly he could and would take his wife and family on voyages, as he
does today. In the seventies, I used to do just that and the children's
education was continued on board but with much added input from the voyage,
which stood them in good stead.

Births on board a British ship would be registered with the British
Consulate at the nearest port and this would be conveyed back to the UK.
