Subject: [CHS] Looking into the surname COOKSON

I am a new subscriber to this list and have recently begun to look up my
COOKSON forebears. I was led to believe by my mother that my grandfather's
family originated in Lancashire. This does not seem to be the case as
everyone that I have discovered has come from the Crewe area of Cheshire.
Many family members live in Cheshire still, although I live in Aberystwyth,
Wales.
I have concrete evidence of the COOKSON line up to Samuel COOKSON. .
George COOKSON's father Samuel may be from Tarvin in Cheshire. Both were
tailors so was George's wife Jane HOCKENHULL (tailoress) (George's birth
certificate is in the pipeline to confirm this or not). If this is is the
case and Samuel's wife was Hannah BENSON, then Samuel may be the same one
that had a father also called Samuel who married a woman called Mary
BEBBINGTON at Tarvin Cheshire in 1827. This is a crucial link which could
lead to a well known Cookson dynasty from that area which even on a brief
examination appears to go back to 1768 and further:

1858 George COOKSON born Nantwich district. Father Samuel COOKSON, mother
unknown (yet)
1853 Samuel COOKSON married Hannah BENSON (or BENISON), St Andrew, Tarvin (I
need to find out more about this)
In a nut-shell here is that Cookson line:
1/4/1832 Samuel COOKSON christened. Parents Samuel/Mary (Tarvin)
14/3/1827 Samuel COOKSON married Mary BEBBINGTON (Tarvin)
1/12/1811 Samuel COOKSON christened. Parents William/Ann (Tarvin)
3/7/1809 William COOKSON married Ann BECKET (Tarvin)
25/3/1788 William COOKSON christened. Parents James/Sarah (Tarvin)
10/1/1786 James COOKSON married Sarah WALKER (Tarporley)
23/10/1768 James COOKSON christened. Parents Richard/Ann (Middlewich)
Any help on confirming any of this would be gratefully received. Most of the
above I have gleaned from the online I.G.I. indexes. If anyone has any dates
of deaths on any of the above, again I would be forever in your debt.
Thank you
Alan COOKSON
