I really must apologize to all the people who have tried to download. I did not do a full trial download I only checked the Save dialog box came up. I was told there was a problem, tried to correct it and had some problems with my system.
Quite usual for me and my system, as you all no doubt have had similar experieces.
I hope everything is now OK, I have just done a partial download of both the Word and the PDF files from the URL
www.btinternet.com/~derek.whitmore/genlgene.htm so it should work for you.
Will someone please try this out and let me know if they were successful.
At least it has shown me that a number of people are interested and that all my efforts have been worthwhile.
Please let me know if it helped you find your ancesters I am interested to know.
As you can appreciate even though it has been proof read there will be a few transcription errors, so if you want to check out a particular page you need to find the book page page number, for Whitmore it is 254 then go to
http://www.usigs.org/library/books/uk/Cheshire1909/00PageImages/
then click on chesv254.tif.
The advantage of the Word file is that it is small to download and you can use Find to search for names/places. Because names are sometimes split it is recommended that you only use the first three letters for the search.
Best wishes Derek.
