Hi all,

Does someone on the list know the difference between a workhouse and a poorhouse?

I have GGG Grandparents living in a Poorhouse (in Bollington), according to the 1841 census (thanks Wendy!). They are there living as husband and wife with their son and there seems to be children living with them that don't appear to be their own (they have different surnames).

I pretty much know what a workhouse is, but was wondering if a poorhouse was a similar place?
