Leone,

I checked the index of the James Hall book and I regret there do not
appear to be any STRETTLES in it. But of course, if Thomas were a
private soldier it is unlikely he would be shown in the book anyway,
which only lists the officers.

However, someone on the list will probably know if there are any
records of the Nantwich Volunteers at the Cheshire RO. I was lucky
enough to find a copy of the published records of the Whitby and
Scarborough Volunteers, North Yorkshire, at the SoG Library in London
and they gave names of enlisted men, including a probable ancestor of
mine. Sometimes, private soldiers appeared in the Orderly Book when
they were up before the CO for some offence or incident.

If there are records of the Nantwich Volunteers somewhere, I am sure
someone will tell us. Come to think of it, why don't you have a look
under Nantwich in the Family History Library Catalog on
familysearch.org?
