Greetings
I am excited to have just received my first ever English Death
Certificate. At first I was a little sad at the lack of info it
contained. We are spoilt here in Victoria Australia with our
certificates as they contain such information as Parents-Spouse(wives
maiden name)-how long married-children with ages-cause of death-burial
place & date-Undertaker-Informant-how long in Victoria &
Australia....BUT!! this depends on the informant and information they
have. By the early 1920's the 'informant' was then the Undertaker with
information given by a family member.
I had a second look at the death certificate and found clues where to
further my research.
William SKEEN died 11 Jan 1895 Union Workhouse Stockport.
Death registered in the Sub-district Stockport First
His Occupation listed 'Pavior Journey-man'of Bramhall
Informant was A.G.HILL, Matron, Union Workhouse Stockport.
Cause of Death- Bronchitis & Cardiac Dilatation. Certified by N.B. Bale
M.R.G.S.
Any advice as where to find information on the 'Union Workhouse
Stockport' around 1895.
Would anyone know what is a 'Pavior Journey-man' is. I thought it was
'paver' but the writing is clear and it is pavior.
Many thanks
Regards
Marg
