G'day from Down Under and Furthest East!

I am desperately looking for:

David BAYNE: Born 1853 or 1854, date and place unknown.
Occupation: Commercial traveller for an unknown Liverpool firm(I
suspect that he was a bookmaker's agent).
Father: John BAYNE, 1825-1892; cooper. Nothing else is known.
Mother: Unknown.
Marriages:
* First marriage - no details, wife's name unknown. Date and place
unknown. No children known. Does not appear in the GRO records.
* Second marriage -
Liverpool, 1894 - age given as 40 - described as 'widower'.
Wife: Annette Eliza EVANS.
Death: Birkenhead, Ches 1920. Age on death certificate as 65.

Neither he nor his first wife show up in the 1881 census index for any
county in England, Wales, Scotland, IoM, Channel Islands.
I cannot trace him in the 1891 census because I have no address.

His address in 1901 was: 4 Radnor Drive, Wallasey, Cheshire. I
will try this address in the 1901 census in a few weeks' time, once the
panic has subsided and the cock-ups are sorted out. I suspect that he
may have been born in Scotland.

His birth does not appear in the GRO over the period 1843-1860.
His first wife's death does not appear in the GRO in the period
1875-1893.

He and his family seem to have specialized in covering their tracks!

He is the major brick wall in my family research and has been so for
several years. Any information or clues will be gratefully received.

Stan Bayne, Wellington, New Zealand
