Hi Robert -

I wouldn't have said that BLACKSHAW was that unusual in Cheshire (remember
the Cheshire IGI only gives about 20% coverage, if that). There were
BLACKSHAWs in Marton (nr CApesthorne) from at least 1831 (Ann, John, Joseph,
Samuel, Sarah, Thomas, William). Thomas BLACKSHAW had the Davenport Arms in
MArton. There was a Jon BLACKSHAW in Mutlow from 1847-1864, and a Sarah and
Thomas BLACKSHAW in Siddington in 1831, at Hazle Wall Farm, and Turnock Farm
respectively.

Samuel BLACKSHAW at Marton had his house broken into in May 1853. Ann
BLACKSHAW of Marton died on 8 Dec 1865, and her pension of 5 shillings
stopped on that date. There was a John BLACKSHAW living at the Oak, Marton
in 1873.

The monumental inscriptions for Marton have been transcribed, altho' I'm
afraid I do not have a copy.

Best wishes

Keith Giles
