Hi Jane,
I assume that Warrington is in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Liverpool, in
which case there was/is a regulation that Parish Priests could not be given
the Authority to 'Marry' people in the same way that a CoE Priest or a
Registrar can. When we got married in Church by the Priest, we were
immediately whisked to the Vestry and went through a second ceremony before
the Registrar.Whether this situation of Religious/civil marriages applies in
other R.C. Dioceses or other faiths I am unaware. But it may explain the
"civil" nature of your marriage.

maiden name of Ellen Flanagan - GABEGAN - (which was off a birth
certificate) - I've just found a marriage on Cheshire BMD for Patrick
Flanagan and Ann Canavan in 1854 - Warrington Civil Marriage.

census's - could it be Ann Ellen etc?

in Warrington - they were both born in Ireland. Don't know if they 'stopped
off' halfway before deciding where to settle!

listers think - this would be them?
